Position: Youth Development Professional - Teen Focused
Located: 1000 B Cherry Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22903
Reports to: Unit Director
Position Status: Part-time, Non-exempt
Compensation: $15-$17/hour
Work hours: Monday-Friday, 2:30p-6:30p
This role will primarily be focused on interacting and running programs for our 13 - 18 year old member group.
Summary: Responsible for planning, preparing, and implementing developmentally appropriate programs and activities.
Youth Development Professionals are responsible for ensuring the emotional and physical safety of groups of a minimum of 15 members, developing healthy and supporting relationships with all Club members, and modeling academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship with youth.
Youth Development Professionals are responsible for delivering the optimal Club experience for all members, focusing on the mission and core values of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia.
Essential Responsibilities:
Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Priority Outcomes (Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship) and promotes program participation.
Facilitate programs and activities indoors and outdoors with a minimum of 15 members ranging from ages 13-18
Provide appropriate supervision by being vigilant of members in program areas, monitoring equipment and supplies
Set clear boundaries with members by enforcing Club rules and policies and ensuring compliance while fostering an inclusive environment.
Enforce all safety precautions and ensure that equipment is maintained in an appropriate manner
Continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members
Report concerns relating to the members, families, staff or facilities to Unit Director or Lead Program Coordinator
Maintain positive relationships with members and their parents and/or guardians while creating a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Mediate medium to mild behavior issues with confidence while providing guidance and role modeling.
Participate in special programs and/or events as requested
Oversee clean up and ensure a clean area at the end of snack and mealtimes
Perform other related duties as assigned by management staff
Relationships:
Internal: Maintain effective communication with members, employees, volunteers, supervisors and community partners.
External: Maintain contact with external community agencies and partners
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work with young people, parents, and community members
Ability to motivate youth in a consistent and constructive manner while maintaining a positive environment
Ability to pass a criminal background check required
Ability to acquire CPR and First Aid certification required
Education and Certifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required and youth development focus preferred
Valid Driver’s license preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
Must be 18 years or older for employment.
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
