50 an hour.
This is a non-exempt, temporary (variable/limited-hour) position, and is not eligible for city benefits.
Position requires 40 hours weekly, starting June 10th through July 26th, with the exception of observed City Holidays (June 19th and July 4th), between the hours of 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.
This position performs a variety of duties related to assisting all leaders in camp program activities, supervision, and operations; which may be comprised of a children, youth, and/or young adults with or without disabilities.
Primarily and most frequently, work is performed under direct supervisor within one functional area and of a routine nature.
Reports to the Assistant Camp Director or Camp Director.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Supervises campers to ensure adherence to camp standards and established safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and operating requirements.
Assists camp leaders with the daily on-site operation of a camp program.
Provides input to camp leaders for the planning, designing, and implementing of daily day camp activities and field trips that are age and ability appropriate; Teaches, demonstrates, supervises, and officiates activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, environmental education, water activities and field trips.
Sets up and breaks down tables, furniture, rooms/areas of activity, and recreation equipment.
Assists camp leaders with the management and care of facilities and equipment in all program areas.
Assists camp leaders with daily and weekly rooms/areas of activity cleaning.
Follows all health and safety regulations when working with equipment.
Encourages participation in camp activities and assist campers as needed.
Creates an environment which is inclusive for all campers.
Acts as a positive role model to campers.
Maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.
Communicates effectively, professionally, courteously, and thoroughly to campers, customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Performs related duties as required.
Education, Experience and Skills Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 10th grade.
Minimum of one (1) month of experience working in a recreational setting with children, youth, and/or young adults including but not limited to assisting, supervising, and implementing recreational activities.
OR A minimum of three (3) months of work/volunteer experience, in any capacity, working with children, youth, and/or young adults with or without disabilities.
Special Requirements: Minimum Age: 16 Preference for possession of CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work with children and youth with or without disabilities and one’s peers; strong group leadership skills, high energy level, adaptability and dependability; able to communicate, supervise and provide sound judgment to participants and staff; able to react quickly, calmly and appropriately in an emergency situation; ability to perform first aid; able to enter, stand and move in a pool or lake.
Physical Conditions & Additional Information Physical requirements of this position as outlined by the Department of Labor: MEDIUM: work involves exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an amount greater than negligible and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
