File readers focus on the holistic review of first-year applications for admission to the Law School.
The University of Virginia School of Law’s Office of Graduate Studies seeks one or more part-time, seasonal admissions file readers.
The file readers will focus on the holistic review of applications for admission to the Law School’s full-time Master of Laws (LL.
M.
) program, which provides an American legal education to foreign-trained lawyers, the Doctor of Juridical Science (S.
J.
D.
), a four-to-five-year advanced degree program, and the Visiting Scholars program.
The file readers assist the assistant dean of graduate studies in analyzing the qualifications of prospective students and submitting evaluations and recommendations to the assistant dean through an electronic file management system.
File readers will be expected to communicate regularly with the Graduate Studies Office via telephone, email, and electronic platforms such as Teams or Zoom.
The duration of the assignment is for the 2023-2024 admissions cycle: October 2023 through April 2024 (start and end dates flexible according to the needs of the department).
The position's compensation is $30.
00 per hour with an average of 30 hours per week needed, with busiest times from early January to early March.
Work will be performed 100% remotely.
Because file reader positions are remote, file readers must have access to reliable high-speed internet.
This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.

Professional Experience and Education:
A master's or terminal degree required.
A Juris Doctor or a combination of LL.
B.
and LL.
M.
is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with higher legal education in both a domestic and international context and with international education standards and practices, including transcript evaluation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent time management abilities.
Familiarity with ACES2 software preferred.
Previous experience reviewing LL.
M.
and S.
J.
D.
applications preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
