Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs.
With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Geospatial Space Technician to support Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, efficient, reliable, and sustainable geospatial systems in support of the University's mission.
This position provides geospatial support for creation and updating of floorplans for over 18 million gross square feet of university space.
Additionally, the technician assists with space data maintenance and works closely with the Space Project Manager in the development of tools to support strategic space planning.
Responsibilities: Creating and maintaining floor plans using various geospatial tools.
Collecting new and corrected drawings and integrates them into a database.
Consulting with supervisors regarding relational data systems changes necessary to maintain and develop the Space Management System Maintaining space inventory data.
Ensuring the accuracy of drawings provided by consultants through field measurements and construction project documentation review phases.
Perform basic data analysis to quality control floor plan layouts with database entries Assist in the design and maintenance of geospatial applications as part of a collaborative design team with a focus on user experience by conducting tests, teaching basic-level workshops, and assisting student research.
Training customers on space planning solutions provided by the Geospatial Engineering Services department.
Providing training to customers across university departments on space data standards.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: A minimum of four years of professional experience utilizing AutoCAD or similar software to create spatial data visualizations and representations of the built environment.
Required Computer Applications: AutoCAD or similar software Preferred Qualifications: Experience integrating space information with other enterprise information systems is preferred.
Knowledge of the Postsecondary Education Facilities Inventory and Classification Manual (FICM) standards for space inventory coding.
Experience drafting or modeling in 3D.
Preferred Computer Applications: FM:Interact, Archibus, FAMIS, AssetWorks AiM or other space inventory systems.
Autodesk Revit or other Building Information Modeling tools.
Compensation: Anticipated Hiring range between $55,000 and $65,000.
This is a full-time position with UVA benefits.
